While laying in bed, unable to sleep (thank you, Mt. Dew…) I’ve had several ideas come to me about what I can do to make this site better, at least in my opinion.

The first thing is to look into making a child theme. The TwentyEleven theme is awesome, and powerful, but I want this site to stand out from a vanilla 2011 theme. This site is supposed to be a portfolio of my work and a positive asset in helping me find a job. Having a unique theme (or at least something less ordinary) is in my opinion something that will help me. So one goal is to make a child theme that takes advantage of what 2011 has to offer.

The second thing, which will probably happen first or second, is to add my resume to the site. Of course, the one on the site will have a few changes, mainly that I won’t be posting my address (physical or email), and I won’t be posting my phone number either. Since I have a contact page on the site, I don’t feel like I need to post contact info on the resume, and besides, posting my physical address and phone number just seems like a bad idea.

The third thing, which would get done second or third, would be to do a slight page reorganization. Maybe. What I had in mind is making a new top level page called Portfolio (or something similar), making the Plugins page a child of that, and then adding additional child pages for things such as themes, sites, and other examples (such as small scripts, programs, etc). While I could make all of those top level pages, I think having them be children looks cleaner. Which way I go depends on how things look when I test.

While I’d love for these changes to happen ASAP, I’m in the middle of a project for another site of mine, a URL shortener that has so far been private, but which I am going to be opening up for public use as soon as I can get the design finished. Hopefully I can get that site done in a week or two (I’m only able to spend an hour or two each night, and I’m anal about how it looks, which explains why WordPress themes I’ve made have never seen the light of day). Once that site’s done, it won’t take very long for me to do items two and three for this site; how long it takes me to create the child theme is anyone’s guess. It could take me a week, it could take me a month, it could take me a year (I really hope it doesn’t though).

Needless to say, there will be changes around here, and hopefully they are positive.
